Important terminology: High-pressure washing and heated-caustic washing are separate process stages. “High pressure” does not mean that the caustic solution is applied at high pressure.

Overall Process Design

Adding a Heated-Caustic Pre-Washer May Change How the Existing Washer Should Be Used

When the new Pre-Washer already provides sufficient high-pressure washing and heated-caustic contact, some original caustic stations in the existing Internal Washer may be reassigned to disinfection. This can increase effective caustic and disinfection time across the combined process.

A possible arrangement is: new heated-caustic washing, two independent high-pressure stages, strengthened disinfection in the existing washer, and final product-water rinsing.

This Is Not a Fixed Formula

The design depends on bottle contamination, existing station layout, pumps, piping, nozzles, chemical circulation, caustic temperature, disinfectant strategy, contact time, drainage, and line speed.

4R recommends station functions as part of the overall process design. Feasibility and implementation boundaries depend on the existing machine.

Should we strengthen our existing Internal Washer or replace it?

Keep the existing washer when its downstream disinfection and final product-water rinsing remain effective and controllable. Add a High-Pressure Pre-Washer when mechanical removal is insufficient, or a High-Pressure & Heated Caustic Pre-Washer when both mechanical cleaning and organic-residue removal need improvement. Replace the washer when the complete process is outdated, incomplete, or no longer reliable.

Can 4R equipment be integrated into our existing production line?

Yes, subject to a technical interface review. 4R evaluates conveyor height and direction, line speed, available space, bottle transfer, electrical controls, drainage, chemical circulation, upstream and downstream rhythm, and the condition of the retained equipment.

How do the three Internal Washer configurations differ?

Capacity is not determined by speed alone. 4R calculates the configuration from target bottles per hour, bottles per index, required high-pressure, caustic, disinfection and final-rinse contact times, bottle format, number of lanes, available footprint, and production-line interfaces.

How does the system prevent ineffective washing from continuing unnoticed?

Depending on the selected configuration, defined pressure, tank level, pump operation, temperature, chemical supply, and final-rinse conditions can be monitored with alarms and interlocks. Critical failures should stop the affected process before unqualified bottles continue toward filling.
